Get Your Home Evaluated: Contact GreenThink Inc. and schedule an energy advisor.
Plan Your Improvements: Review recommendations and get 1-3 contractor quotes. Don't start work before applying! DIY? Remember only materials (not labor) count, and products must be bought from Canadian suppliers.
Apply for the Loan: You'll need your pre-retrofit evaluation number, photo ID with address, property tax bill, contractor quotes, and income proof (two documents).
Make the Improvements: Keep all receipts and documentation.
Post-Improvement Evaluation: Schedule a follow-up assessment to document the changes. Your advisor will submit the results within 30 days.
Request Final Payment: Log in to upload final invoices. Note: The loan amount won't increase if costs end up higher than estimated.
Receive Funds: Expect payment within 10 days of approval.
Start Repayment: You'll receive repayment details for your 10-year term shortly after funding.

Home Requirements
Your primary residence must:
Be at least 12 months old
Have an active residential utility account with FortisBC, BC Hydro, or a municipal utility
Eligible Home Types
Single-family home (detached dwelling)
Secondary suite in a single-family home (detached dwelling), with its own separate utility meter
A mobile home that is permanently fixed, sits on a foundation, and is structurally complete with installed and connected plumbing, heating, electrical, water, and sewer services; towing apparatus and axle must be removed.
Duplex, triplex, row home, or townhome, where each unit has its own natural gas and/or electricity meter; utility accounts must be in the name of the resident and/or homeowner. Utility accounts in the name of a strata corporation are not eligible.
Key Points
Only one heating system rebate per home
All installations require licensed B.C. contractors

Full rebate available for homes valued at $450,000 or less
Partial rebates may be available for properties above $450,000
This program helps make homeownership more affordable by returning a portion of your tax payment on qualifying properties.
Owner-Built Homes
Qualify when you:
Build a new house on your land
Complete major renovations (90% of interior replaced)
Add significant structural changes (like a full second story)
Convert non-residential property into a home
Purchase/renovate a new mobile or floating home
Note: Minor additions like sunrooms or extra bedrooms don’t qualify.
Builder-Purchased Homes
Qualify when you:
Buy a new/renovated house and land from a builder
Purchase a new mobile or floating home
Buy co-op housing shares for a new/renovated unit
Purchase a new house with a 20+ year land lease option
For both categories, the work must be substantial and meet specific criteria to qualify for the rebate.
Remember: Basic renovations or small additions typically don’t meet the requirements – the changes must be extensive to qualify.
